Happy Holidays & Stuff =)
It’s 5:20 PM on Christmas Eve, I finally relented to the begging child who called me 8 (eight) times while I was at work today to BEG to open a gift. The upside? I got to pick.
I got an iPhone for Christmas, yesterday. I love it. I had been toying around with getting some type of Netbook, but in the end, I think this will actually serve that purpose, much better. Plus, it has all the cool apps, so I can find a Starbucks, next time we take a road trip.
So, for all my Twitter and Facebook folks - I posted yesterday that I had a new gig - so I thought I’d share some of that!
I landed a part time gig with a company in Scottsdale that runs a large advice based site, powered by a technology that I am really familiar with. The site, called RealAdvice.com, is a Community Based project that allows users to register and ask questions, then get answers to those questions from community members. The difference here is that users can rate their on level of expertise on any given topic - and people can network with those people, based on their like experiences. It’s a very nifty project that really has been all giddy and excited. The guys over at Real Advice are real nice and I look forward to being able to contribute to something I’m really passionate about.
Other than those little tidbits of good news - that’s really all I have. We’re going to hang out and do the Christmas thing in the morning, then back to work on Friday.
Have a safe and wonderful holiday
The Eve Before Christmas Eve…
It’s hard to believe that it’s the day before Christmas Eve. Mostly, I think, because I’m not feeling festive at all. I mean I sort of am, but not really.
(I need to take a break from this blog post and talk about how painful it is for me to post this. Yesterday evening, I got home and was taking some dishes I’d gotten out of their protective pouch when I slicked the tip of my right middle finger on the-sharpest-knife-in-the-universe. John got me a knife sharpener this weekend and I used it to sharpen a knife to make some Avocado Tomato Salad and when I washed it, I left it on the counter. For the record, freakin OUCH!)
Anyway, we’re ready I guess, although as I’ve said before, this year is going to be small. I got Jerrett one of those ambient sound machines, which he’s been wanting for a while. My parents, back home, have one in their guest bedroom and when Jerrett goes, he uses the heck out of it. I think he’ll like this one. It’s got a built in alarm clock, so he’ll get a dual use out of it.
Regardless of where we are this Christmas, there is a little girl who is asking for much much more - If you’re not a reader of Kidneys and Eyes, I urge you to become one. A few weeks ago, another K&E reader put out a call to the Blogosphere and I posted about that call here. She was asking that everyone come together and send earrings to Quinn - the little girl who wrote the letter above. If you’ve got it in your heart this holiday season - remember those who are far less fortunate than yourselves. You may want that nifty new gadget you think you can’t live without - but there is one kid who only wants the gift of life without dialysis.
It sort of puts things in perspective, doesn’t it?
Have a safe and happy Holidays everyone! Enjoy the time you’ll spend with your friends and family and remember to think about those less fortunate than yourselves. It’s easy to get lost in a sea of self pity, but remember, we’ve all got something to be grateful for.
Random Thoughts For Saturday Morning
Some mornings, I wake up, and I already know what kind of day I’m going to have. I kind of hate those mornings because I don’t like knowing when things are going to go in the crapper in advance. Knowing that sets the tone for everything I do and so if the opportunity presents itself to turn things around, I am often so focused on things being in the crapper, I miss the chance to improve my day.
Silly, I know. What can ya do?
- I love the new project I’m working on. It really makes me feel good about myself because I know I’m valued for what I bring to the table.
- I am meeting with some local guys about coming on board to help them with their project. Another part time gig.
- I love that I can still do things that I love to do, but also put food on the table and a roof overhead.
- I am officially finished with school (for now) and looking back, I’m not sure why I decided to do this, other than to do it. I opted for the off-campus walk, but we’re really reconsidering the sanity of spending money on something so silly.
- I have a pink Christmas Tree and it is the greatest Christmas Tree I have ever seen. It was a big step to get me from NO TREE AT ALL to Ok, maybe a small one, Oh Oh Oh!!! I like this Pink one!.
- Everyone I have talked to about my tree choice has told me I’m crazy. I have a note from a therapist that states otherwise.
- I broke down this morning and wrote the rules of the house on the (8 ft tall, 7 ft wide) mirror in the living room using a dry erase marker. Clearly, the rules were hard to remember. I don’t think anyone will forget them now.
- There are a couple of people I need to stop following on Twitter. They’re annoying. (One down, one to go)
- I cleaned my kitchen this morning while I waited for the coffee to brew. I was irritated for having to wait and got all pissy while cleaning the kitchen because I live with a couple of slobs.
- I think I might have to throw the microwave out and replace it - I’m not sure any amount of scrubbing is going to help it. But we’ll see, Jerrett has all day and an endless supply of teenage elbow grease.
- Every single time Jerrett has to go get a haircut he fights and argues about how he wants to grow his hair out, yet he refuses to do anything to it in the morning before school, so he often goes with bedhead - I’m trying to figure out what the deal is with all that.
- I’m not sure why I have suddenly started to get acne. I never really struggled with it growing up but now that I’m 35, I seem to spent a lot of time trying to figure out how I can get it to stop.
- I am going to try to get a trim today, but I don’t know if I can get it worked in, we’ll see.
- The laundry is done, kitchen clean and chores pretty much done. Thankfully.
- Jerrett is trying to figure out how to make the lights on the pink tree blink, cuz we need blinking darn lights, dang it! (He figured it out, yay, they blink)
- I want new dishes. The dishes I have are ten years old and so many of them have disappeared that we don’t even have enough plates to use without doing dishes twice a day.
- I just made a 1 PM appointment to get the hair done. Glad that worked. I only let one lady work on my hair, so sometimes getting in with her is hard.
- I need to remember to go to the store and get some Slow FE.
- I want to get a new Bluetooth Headseat. I’m looking at the Jawbone, but I don’t know. I hate this.
Well, I am going to head out and start my day. It’s amazing how therapeutic writing this can be. It’s like I can put things in their own little box and move on. Great stuff. Great great stuff.
